Diabetes Queensland Peer Support Group annual online forum

Before COVID-19 restrictions were put in place, we had intended to convene an Annual Forum for Support Group Facilitators, similar to the forum that we convened in Brisbane in June 2019.

In place of a physical get together, we convened an on-line forum via Zoom on Tuesday, June 30, 2020.

We’ll have more opportunities to physically get together in the future but the online option was the most appropriate at that time.

Who was there?

Zooming in for this year’s forum were Anne from the Cairns Dynamic Intent Type 1 Group, Ashleigh from the Brisbane-based Mamabetes Podcast Support Group, Anne from the Mackay Diabetes Support Group, Lockie from Stradbroke Island, Fleur from Brisbane and Erich from Ipswich.

It was a pleasure to get together as a small group to examine the different types of peer support that exist, view a video from the international group Peers for Progress and to share how we’ve all been going during the past few months under COVID-19 restrictions.

Peer Support Group Grants Program

Additionally, the forum provided us with the opportunity to examine the Peer Support Group Grants Program and how it has benefitted groups.

If you didn’t apply for any funding support previously, there will still be opportunities over the next 18 months to explore how the small grants program may benefit your group. If you would like to discuss in more detail, please email us.

We’re looking forward to convening more virtual get togethers in the future but if the technology is a block, please email us. We’d love to contact you so that we can guide each other through this new world. It’s a little bit daunting but it gives us many more opportunities to connect while the pandemic is trying to keep us apart.
