Upskilling Cairns Health Workers
This co-designed, culturally appropriate diabetes education program is for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers and Practitioners. It aims to upskill Health Workers, like Gina, with a refresher on diabetes messaging for the community she helps to live well with diabetes.
Continued Support for Diabetes Yarning
Diabetes Queensland supported Gina to deliver the program for people living with diabetes in Cairns. Diabetes Queensland will continue to support her now she is a Diabetes Yarning trained facilitator.
Cairns Diabetes Update
In addition, the Cairns Diabetes Service welcomed Diabetes Queensland to deliver a culturally appropriate Diabetes Update education session. Experienced Health Workers and Practitioners within the Cairns Hospital adult services attended the session.
They enjoyed the session and recommend others go to a Diabetes Update education session, too.

‘Share the understanding’ through Diabetes Yarning
Some of the reasons they would recommend the Diabetes Update education session learnings are:
- “to share the understanding of dealing with diabetes to our mob” and
- “it’s a great refresher”
Finally, Diabetes Queensland staff visited various diabetes health clinicians. These visits with peak health organisations are to ensure continuing collaboration for the best health outcomes for our peoples.
Thank you for welcoming us, Cairns!
