Kids with type 1 diabetes from throughout Moreton Bay turned out
to play when Diabetes Queensland hosted its first DiaBuddies Day in
the region last month.
Batman and his Batmobile also joined in the party.
YMCA's Camp Warrawee in Joyner gave the 56 people who attended,
including 15 children with type 1 diabetes and 17 of their brothers
and sisters, the chance to climb the indoor rock wall and complete
the outdoor low ropes course.
Sisters Courtney and Sophie Braidwood, both Diabetes Queensland
type 1 young ambassadors, volunteered on the day and spoke to the
families about their journey growing up with type 1 diabetes. They
also helped with the art and craft activities.
Many of the families came dressed in their favourite superhero
costumes. The best dressed superhero prizes were won by Amber
Hopkins and Janko Booyse.
The Sulskis and Keane families won the fruit and vegetable
hampers, donated by Brisbane Markets.
The carbohydrate count competitions were won by Zoe Keane, Harry
Vaughan, Chelsea Gilson and Ben Hayes.
