Diabetes education workshops

Diabetes Queensland offers short 2-3 hour workshops for people living with diabetes. These free workshops are designed to help you increase your confidence and improve self-management of diabetes.


Simply choose one or more topics you would like to learn more about. The workshops are in small groups and you are welcome to bring a partner, friend or support person along with you. You can share experiences with other people with diabetes and ask as many questions as you like.

Carb Smart _border



Confused about carbs? This three-hour workshop will make you an expert on the myths and facts of carbohydrates. Learn about the different types of carbs and the amount that is best for you. For people with type 2 or gestational diabetes. 



Foot Smart _border


Your feet are made for walking - so let's keep them healthy. This two-hour practical session will teach all you need to know about checking and caring for your feet. For people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes.




Med Smart _border


This two-hour workshop will provide practical information to help you understand what your diabetes medications are and what they do. There will also be an opportunity to address any concerns you may have. For people with type 2 diabetes.



Meter Smart _border


Do you find checking your blood glucose painful? Or suspect you are not getting accurate results? This two-hour practical skills session will show you all the best techniques for using your meter to help manage your diabetes. For people with type 2 diabetes. 



Shop Smart _borderShopSmart

Do you know what is really going into your trolley? Learn how to decode food labels and spot the techniques used to trick you into buying unhealthy food. This two-hour workshop will help you make healthy choices while shopping. For people with all types of diabetes. 



Living With Insulin

Living with Insulin

If you are new to insulin, or have been on insulin for a while and would like a refresher, this three-hour program is for you. This workshop is suitable for people over the age of 18 living with type 1 diabetes, or those using insulin to treat type 2 diabetes.



Ready Set Go _border

Ready Set Go, Let's move

If you are having difficulty getting started, or find it hard to stay on track with your physical activity, this session is perfect for you. This 3-hour information workshop gives you practical advice and tips to begin moving more. For people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes.  



Pump Workshop _border

Pump workshop

This basic 2-hour skills workshop is suitable for those considering a pump or those wanting a refresher.

For people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes (18+). This workshop is also suitable for parents of children with diabetes to attend.
