Diabetes and depression
Living with diabetes can affect your emotional
wellbeing, but you can learn some strategies to help you cope
and positively impact on your overall health.
- Don't isolate yourself
- Don't be hard on yourself
- Talk to your diabetes health care team and let them know
how you are coping. It's ok if you're having a difficult
time. Let them know - they are there to help
- Set small and specific goals
- Confide in someone that you trust - talk to your family and
friends so they can support you.
It's OK to ask for help. Day to day challenges can
sometimes feel overwhelming but it can be easier to manage with the
right support. Diabetes Queensland offers a psychologist phone
service should you wish to make an appointment to
talk to someone.
Let people know
Don't be afraid to let people know that you have diabetes.
Give people the chance to support you and educate them on how
diabetes impacts your life. Wearing an ID bracelet is a great idea,
because if you have a hypo, people will know how to help you.
