Managing diabetes

Junior and senior kids camps

Since 2009, Diabetes Queensland has been funding organisations and health services across Queensland to deliver camps for children with diabetes. Diabetes Queensland Camp Grants Program will provide funding to Camp providers who can deliver Junior Camps (children age 11 years and under) and / or a Senior Camp (children age 12 - 17 years). The Camp programs are to be age appropriate, with separate programs for Junior and Senior Camps.

Children living with type 1 diabetes may go through a rollercoaster of emotions while growing up - frustration, anger, sometimes depression and often isolation because not everyone around them understands what life is like with diabetes. A type 1 diabetes diagnosis not only affects the entire family, but every part of a child's life.

Diabetes Queensland wants to support children and families through the type 1 diabetes journey - and offering funding for organisations to deliver camps is one way we do this.

By providing funding towards diabetes camps, Diabetes Queensland enables children with type 1 diabetes to meet and share their experiences with other children who are living with the same condition, while also improving their skills and knowledge in diabetes management. Participants learn about balancing eating, physical activity plans and insulin requirements through a mix of fun activities and educational exercises.
