Get the kids moving!

Being physically active is important for growing bodies, too. So, along with a healthy diet, encourage your kids to be active. Lead by example and make physical activity part of your family's daily life.

Aim for at least 60 minutes a day

Australia's Physical Activity Recommendations for 5-12 Year Olds state that kids need to do a minimum of 60 minutes of physical activity every day. But remember, more is better - even up to several hours! This can be built up throughout the day with a combination of moderate to vigorous activities.

Limit screen time

No more than two hours a day should be spent looking, playing and using computers, electronic games and television.

Some fun activities for the family include:

  • Fly a kite in the park or at the beach
  • Dance to favourite music
  • Ride bicycles or use bike paths
  • Play a family game of table tennis
  • Swim at the local pool
  • Walk the dog
  • Throw a frisbee
  • Jump on a trampoline
