Keeping motivated

Struggling to find motivation?  Here are some great tips to help you stay on track.


Reward yourself

Set yourself some rewards for being diligent and reaching mini-milestones. For  example:

No soft drinks for two weeks = a trip to the movies

No sugar in my coffee for 4 weeks = a mini pedicure

Losing 1 cm around my waist = tickets to a footy match

 

Create a complementary environment

Surround yourself with people, food and activities that are positive to your new healthy
lifestyle. This means:

- Hanging out with people who are active and eat healthy,

- Having food in your house that is nutritious,

- Having a list of activities on hand that are fun and that keep you active.

 

Good enough, is enough!

Aim for the 80/20 rule. If you eat really healthy 80 per cent of the time and allow for some treats or little set-backs for 20 per cent of the time, you will still be far better off than what you were when you started.


Plan ahead

Know your stumbling blocks and plan ahead to avoid them as best as you can. For example if you regularly get takeaway on a Friday night, allocate it as your treat night (one a week) or plan a simple healthy meal ahead of time.


Focus on the outcome and not the effort

Keep your mind firmly focused on how great you are going to feel, how much healthier
your body will be, how much energy you are going to have and how good you are going to look.


Set some goals

It is always beneficial to set some goals so you know where you are heading, how to get there and what you need to do to get there. Your goals should be specific, measurable and realistic. Make sure you write then down and keep them handy to look at each day.
