Red meat, fish, chicken and alternatives

Steak slicedMeat, traditional bush meat, chicken, fish and meat alternatives are a great source of proteins and vitamins. 


Use only lean cuts of meat.


As tasty as deli meats might seem, it is best to avoid them due to the high sodium and fat content.



  • aim for less than 10g of total fat per 100g
  • less than 300mg of sodium per 100g


Even if you don't eat meat it is still necessary to find alternative sources of protein, like eggs, legumes, tofu and nuts. Six eggs per week is the recommended maximum amount.
