OzDAFNE - Townsville

A 5 day program for adults with type 1 diabetes who are using pens to inject their insulin.

OzDAFNE  (an acronym for Dose Adjustment for Normal Eating) is run by trained diabetes facilitators for groups of 8 people. You will learn practical diabetes management skills that will help you feel more at ease at meal times. You will also gain the confidence to manage some of the more challenging aspects of type 1 diabetes.

During this 5 day course, you will:

  • Learn how to count carbohydrates and adjust your insulin doses
  • Learn how to manage exercise, illness and hypoglycaemia
  • Meet others with type 1 diabetes and share experiences.

"I have had type 1 diabetes for over 25 years. After attending a diabetes consultation with my diabetes team, I was advised I would benefit from attending the DAFNE course in order to have a better quality of life.

The first few days were so interesting. The staff support given was outstanding, and I met others with type 1 diabetes. I felt I was now part of a team, learning new information that would benefit me enormously instead of doing it alone as I had for many years. At the end of the week I was so excited to be part of a program that really cared so much for us. The information given was life changing."
