With the number of people diagnosed with diabetes
growing every year, information about managing diabetes, raising
awareness and providing diabetes support in our community is vital
if people are to stay well.
Support groups hold an important place in the lives of many
people with diabetes. Research has shown that people who
attend support groups are more confident about their diabetes, are
less likely to suffer with depression or stress - in part
because they have the knowledge to better manage their
Support groups offer the opportunity to meet others with
the same diagnosis, to gain more information about their condition,
to learn coping and management skills and to build friendships with
like minded people.
There are currently over 40 support groups in Queensland
for both type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
