DiaBuddies Online: Children's session

This event is for children aged 5-15 years with type 1 diabetes, we encourage siblings to join in too.

Start the School holidays with some DiaBuddies fun!

This session will be coordinated by Street Science who will be running a live interactive online science workshop! Learn how to make the most of your fruit and vegetable scraps by growing new plants.  In this activity you will learn about the lifecycle of plants and what they need to grow and discover some fantastic propagation techniques which will have you growing your own plants in no time at all.  Reduce landfill, explore fun facts about fruit and vegetables, and get a start on your very own fruit and vegetable garden.

If you would like to have a hands-on experience growing your own fruit and vegetables please ensure you have the below list of materials ready at home for the session:

  • Paper cups - 10 or more
  • Plastic cups or glass jars
  • Pencil
  • Garden soil, compost, or fine potting mix - to fill cups
  • Plastic plate
  • Vegetable and fruit scraps which may be used to regrow plants
  • Large spoon or small hand trowel to transfer soil
  • Permanent marker
  • Jug of water
  • Tray to work over

The presentation of DiaBuddies Online has been made possible through the generous support of Future Generations Australia.
