Managing diabetes

Kids camps and activities

Since 2009, Diabetes Queensland has been funding organisations and health services across Queensland to deliver camps and activities for children with type 1 diabetes.  Grants of up to $5000 are available. Over the past 4 years this has added up to more than $83,000 worth of funding.

Children with type 1 diabetes go through a rollercoaster of emotions while growing up - frustration, anger, sometimes depression and often isolation because not everyone around them understands what life is like with diabetes. A type 1 diabetes diagnosis not only affects the entire family, but every part of a child's life.

Diabetes Queensland wants to support children and families through the type 1 diabetes journey - and offering funding for organisations to deliver camps is one way we do this.

By providing funding towards diabetes camps, Diabetes Queensland enables children with type 1 diabetes to meet and share their experiences with other children who are living with the same condition, while also improving their skills and knowledge in diabetes management. Participants learn about balancing eating, exercise, activity plans and insulin requirements through a mix of fun activities and educational exercises.
